Two Montgomery area residents were arrested on burglary charges on Thursday, according to Red Level police officials.

Maranda Bowlen, 20, and Devin Thaggard, 23, have been charged with burglary III and theft of property III. Bowlen was also charged with possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Red Level Police Chief Howard West said he got called out to a residence Thursday evening after a concerned citizen heard noise coming from a vacant house.

“Upon responding to the residence in Red Level, I found two adults and one juvenile subject,” West said. “They were both charged with burglary and theft of property, and the female subject was found to have been in possession of marijuana.”

West said the subjects were still in the house when he arrived at the Smiley Street residence.

“They went in through a side window,” he said. “As they were leaving the window, I then detained them.”

West said only a couple of items were taken from the residence.

Burglary III is a class C felony and if convicted, Bowlen and Thaggard could face a minimum of one year and one day in prison, and a maximum of 10 years, as well as a fine of up to $15,000. Theft of property III is a class A misdemeanor, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for no more than one year, and a conviction can also result in a fine of no more than $6,000.

Bowlen’s possession charges are a felony because she had a previous possession charge on her record, West said.

West said the Covington County Sheriff’s Office and the Covington County Sheriff’s Reserves assisted in the arrest.
