LBWCC’s Student Support Services was recently awarded a five-year, $2.9 million grant.

The grant will allow Student Support Services to service 400 students each year at LBWCC’s Andalusia, Greenville and MacArthur campuses.

The program provides academic counseling, financial aid assistance, tutoring, transfer assistance, personal counseling, career counseling and cultural activities to motivate students toward the successful completion of their degrees.

These services are provided at no cost to the student.

Additionally, the grant allows six full–time employees to continue their jobs and provides jobs for up to 10 tutors each semester to assist students.

“We are here to serve students,” said program director Dr. Pat Powell. “It is very important to LBWCC and the community for students to graduate and be successful in their chosen careers.”

The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Education and was established at LBWCC in 1980.

“We invite all to come and meet the SSS staff if you have an interest in attending LBWCC,” Powell said. “Our caring staff will answer your questions about how we can assist you along the way. LBWCC provides access for not only the traditional student right out of high school, but for non-traditional students who are hesitant to return to college. They may very likely be eligible for SSS and discover that the support we offer can give them the confidence to successfully complete a degree of certificate.”
