Kids learn art, science at the Gallery’s camp
Kids in grades 1-7 learned all about crystals during the Gallery’s Summer Art and Science Camp week.
The theme for the week was Gee Wiz Geodes, instructor Linda Kyle said.
Kyle said the inspiration of the camp came when her kids and husband were hiking and found geodes in Kentucky.
Geodes are rocks that are formed from sedimentary and volcanic rocks with crystals in their centers.
On Thursday, the kids were learning to identify rocks and fossils from LBWCC Instructor Dr. Shane Evans.
Kyle said Lee Cagle of Cagle Jewelers showed the kids refined and unrefined minerals.
Additionally, the kids got the chance to paint crystals with watercolors and the sea on canvas. The sea was painted because it is full of salt crystals, Kyle said.
