County BOE hires 9

The Covington County Board of Education approved nine new school system hires at its Tuesday night meeting.
The board hired:
• Jennifer Kaye Supri, secondary English teacher at Red Level High School effective Aug. 10, 2015;
• Clay Landon Smith as secondary social science teacher at RLHS;
• Robin Carroll Bowers as bookkeeper at RLHS effective immediately;
• Andrea Leigh Smith as custodian at Straughn Elementary School effective immediately;
• John M. Higgins as social science teacher at Straughn Middle School;
• Shea Alan Supri as mathematics teacher at SMS;
• Barry Stanford Wood as assistant principal at SMS and SES;
• Jennifer Fowler Burgans as lunchroom worker at SMS effective Aug. 10; and,
• Robert Macon Chandler as physical education teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary School.
All teaching assignments are effective Aug. 10.
The board accepted the resignations of Brian J. Jones as physical education teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary School and Alicia Denise Moore as elementary teacher at W.S. Harlan, and the retirement resignation of Alice Angela Lane as elementary teacher at Pleasant Home School.
Additionally, the board learned that the system received an unmodified opinion and that there were no findings from the examiners of public accounts in the final audit report for the fiscal year that ended on Sept. 30, 2014.
In other business, the board:
• adopted salary schedules for 2015-2016 retroactive to July 1, 2015;
• granted a leave of absence with benefits to Ashley Taylor Lee as elementary teacher at Red Level Elementary School beginning Aug. 17 and ending Oct. 9; and,
• granted a leave of absence with benefits to Leah Wilks Grimes as reading coach at RLES beginning Aug. 31 and ending Oct. 23.
