Fireworks stands anticipate busy holiday weekend

Stacked high inside local fireworks stands are a plethora of colorful, gun powder-filled novelties residents use to celebrate the Fourth of July, which is Saturday.

Independence Day is a federal holiday that commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which was held on July 4, 1776. The adoption declared independence from Great Britain.

Powderkeg Fireworks Employee Jeremiah Jones was busy stocking shelves for the coming rush of customers on Tuesday.

“They get about everything,” Jones said. “The best big firework is the Excalibur.”

The Excalibur shoots 24 shells out of four different tubes. The firework costs $69.95.

“I’ve had to restock them,” Jones said about the Excalibur.

Powderkeg Fireworks hours are from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday.

At 55 South Fireworks, Manager Angie Hughes said the popular fireworks people like to buy are the Duck Commander fireworks. Duck Commander is a brand worn by the characters on the famous “Duck Dynasty” TV program.

There are different types of Duck Commander fireworks, including the Wake the Snake, Fear the Deer, Pull the Trigger, Sharp Shooter and Ladies Night Out.

“The Duck Commanders are the big seller,” Hughes said.

Hughes said a lot of people come in and grab an assortment of fireworks.

Hughes added that she thinks tomorrow and Friday will be busy days.
