The Pleasant Home Eagles boys’ basketball team has used the summer to gain valuable experience heading into the fall.

During the month of June, the Eagles had 10 practices and 18 games against teams in all over the state and in the Florida panhandle.

The junior varsity Eagles attended a two-day camp in Poplar Springs High School, Fla., and had two play dates at Laurel Hill, Fla. and Baker, Fla. They had a record of 4-4 over the summer.

The varsity Eagles attended camp at Auburn University, and had several play dates over the summer against Jay High School, Fla., Ponce De Leon High School, Fla., Wicksburg High School, Zion Chapel High School, Ider High, Paint Rock High School, West Morgan High School, Cedar Bluff High School, Lee-Scott Academy and Central High School, Fla.

The varsity team ended with a record of 2-8.

“I’m very proud of the boys that participated,” Eagles’ coach Troy Turman said. “They are continually getting better and a developing a work ethic that I like to see. We were not really concerned about our record this summer. We just wanted to play, get better and really compete so that our players can learn and develop. We are trying to change the culture with our basketball program, and want to get everyone to buy in to practicing more and spending more time developing their skills. Really, just developing a desire to want to be good at basketball.”

Turman added that they aren’t finished working this summer and will still be playing basketball on Thursday nights in July.
