The city of Opp will soon begin a $290,000 paving project.

At this week’s council meeting, council members approved the project.

The project will be paid for from funds from the 2015 bond.

Among the streets on the list are:

• North Brantley, E. Paulk and Lawrence, with the expected cost to be $42,000;

• Parrish (from Brantley to Main), with the expected cost to be $20,000;

•  Griffin at a cost of $27,000;

• The south portion of Saunders at a cost a $25,000;

• Henley (from East Park to 134) at a cost of $23,000;

• Morgan (from 134 to Stewart) at the cost of $23,000;

• Truman; cost is $20,000;

• South section of Patterson and Folsom, $35,000;

• Rosalie and 12th (8th to Cummings); cost is $35,000;

• Cole, $20,000; and

• Palmer, $20,000

Mayor John Bartholomew said these are just the beginnings of street paving.

In other business, the council:

• Declared a code 3 siren and siren speaker surplus, and agreed to donate it to the Alabama Forestry Commission to be installed in Keith Stephens’ fire vehicle. The siren and speaker were taken out of Fire Chief Cory Spurlin’s old vehicle.

• Agreed to waive the city sales tax for the annual back-to-school sales tax holiday, which will be from 12:01 a.m., on Aug. 7, and ends at midnight on Aug. 9.
