The City of Florala is looking for a demolition company to tear down the old armory to make way for the new playground that will be built there.
Florala’s City Council approved the demolition of the armory at its May 20 meeting.
Florala Mayor Robert Williamson said the city has gotten in contact with several businesses who are interested in demolishing the armory.
“We want to spend the bulk of the money on the park, and not on demolition,” Williamson said. “We’re working with several people on this.”
The council gave Williamson its blessing to pursue a new park during its Dec. 22, 2014, meeting.
Once the armory is demolished, a new playground will be built in its place.
To help with the project, Williamson said the Martha and Solon Dixon Foundation provided a $30,000 grant.
“We’re grateful for it,” he said.
