Pirates knock off Orioles

In city league Babe Ruth action, the Pirates knocked off the Orioles 8-5 Monday night at Andalusia High School.
The Orioles struck first in the top of the second inning after Grant Holley reached on an error to the start the frame, and Sam Hughes followed with a walk. Both scored by stealing home later in the inning to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead. Travey Stoudemire then drew a walk, and scored on passed ball with one out in the inning.
In the bottom half of the second, the Pirates battled back when Thomas Phillips lead off with a walk, Branston Wallace followed with a single, and Cade Miller loaded the bases with a walk.
Dawson Jernigan then drove in Phillips and Wallace with a single, but Brennan Strong punched out the next two batters to put an end to the Pirates threat.
The Orioles added to their lead in the top of the third inning when Hogan Nichols came around to score on an error after leading off the inning with a walk.
Bouncing back in the bottom of the third, the Pirates got a lead off walk from Andrew Wood followed by a single from Jake Walker. Wood would come around to score on an error one batter later.
Will Clark followed that with a double to left field, and Phillips tied the game up 4-4 with double that brought Walker in to score.
Wallace walked to load up the bases, and Clark scored when Miller was hit by a pitch to give the Pirates a 5-4 lead.
Sebaskin Stallworth retired the Orioles in order in the top of the fourth with groundout to start the inning followed by two strikeouts.
Walker walked to start the bottom of the fifth, scored on an error on a ball hit to left field by Stallworth.
Clark then came around to score on an error on a ball hit by Phillips.
Stallworth gave the Pirates an 8-4 lead with a steal of home.
In the top of the sixth, the Orioles got their final run of the game when Holley scored on a passed ball.
Noah Kelly and Stoudemire led the Orioles with one hit each.
Walker led the Pirates going 2-for-2 with a walk. Phillips and Jernigan drove in two runs each.
Stallworth picked up the win for the Pirates after giving up just one run on one hit and five strikeouts in three innings of work.
