The local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge is seeking help from local businesses and individuals to help make its first-ever pistol competition a success.
The event is scheduled for Sat., June 20, at the Covington County Sheriff’s Office Firing Range, which is located on Hwy 55 at Mile Marker 35 in Red Level. It will begin at 8 a.m.
The event is open to the public and the competition will have 20 team slots available for the daylong event.
Each team will consist of three people and the cost is $100 per team.
Teams should bring a minimum of 200 rounds of ammunition.
Organizers say the best shooter from each team will compete in an individual competition to determine the best overall shooter. An additional 100 rounds will be needed for this.
There will be a first, second, third place in teams awarded and first, second and third place in individuals.
“The money raised through our sponsors will be used to purchase equipment and supplies needed for the event as well as prize money, plaques, door prizes to be given away at the competition,” said organizer Thomas Hugghins. “Funds raised through this competition will send four local special needs families on a special hunting trip hosted by the FOP Lodge No. 19 members.”
