Twenty-one people found themselves behind bars in the Covington County jail yesterday after the District Attorney’s office led a round-up of people wanted for worthless checks and other charges.

DA investigator Max Smith said last night that several agencies cooperated in a round-up that began about 8 a.m. and continued into the night.

Smith said while the effort was primarily to serve bad check warrants, officers also arrested some for violation of parole and on municipal warrants from Andalusia and Opp, as well as on grand jury indictments.

Officers from the district attorney’s office, pardons and paroles, Alabama ABC enforcement, Lockhart Police Department, and Opp Police Department worked throughout the day, and members of the Andalusia Police Department and Florala Police Department also provided assistance.

The names of those arrested were not immediately available when The Star-News went to press, but will be updated to our web site as they become available this morning.
