The Dothan Lady Tigers went 7-1 in Andalusia’s Spring Fling softball tournament this past weekend and claimed the top spot in the tournament.

 

 

 

Three games kicked off the tournament at 9 a.m. with Dothan topping Trinity 6-3, Straughn falling to Northvew 5-0 and Prattville Christian Acadamey beat Andalusia 4-3, on Saturday.

 

 

 

In Andalusia’s first game, PCA jumped out front 1-0 in the first inning.

 

 

 

The Lady Bulldogs tied the game up in the top of the third when Emily Terry drove in Haley Harper.

 

 

 

PCA took the lead back in the bottom half of the third with a long home run.

 

 

 

Millie Manring tied the game up for the Lady Bulldogs in the top of the fourth when she scored on an error.

 

 

 

Merikal McCaskill gave the Lady Bulldogs a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth with a single that drove in Harper from third.

 

 

 

PCA plated a run in the bottom of the sixth, to beat the Lady Bulldogs, 4-3.

 

 

 

In Straughn’s first game, Northview took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Alexis Wyatt scored on a fielder’s choice.

 

 

 

Northview’s remaining runs came in the top of the third off a pair of two-run home runs from Lindsay Massey and Elishah Brown.

 

 

 

In the second round, Straughn topped Andalusia 11-0 in five innings.

 

 

 

Hayden Willis and Brentley Armstrong teamed up for a one-hit shutout of the Lady Bulldogs.

 

 

 

Armstrong also made her presence felt at the plate, racking up three hits and three RBIs in the Lady Tigers’ win.

 

 

 

Jacie Williamson and Mollie Stewart each drove in two runs for the Lady Tigers.

 

 

 

Harper was the only Lady Bulldog to record a hit in the loss to the SHS.

 

 

 

Pleasant Home received a bye in the first round, and played PCA for their first game, losing 14-3.

 

 

 

The Lady Panthers pounced out front 3-0 in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Eagles scraped back to a 3-2 deficit in the bottom of the first when Tammi Hilson and Anna Bulger each came around to score.

 

 

 

PCA broke the game wide open with four runs in the top of the second to take a 7-2 advantage.

 

 

 

Three more runs in the top of the third gave PCA a 10-2 lead, and four runs in the top of the fourth put the Lady Panthers up 14-3.

 

 

 

Taylor McGhee drove in Bulger in the bottom of the third inning for the Lady Eagles’ final run of the contest.

 

 

 

Andalusia’s final game of the tournament came against Dothan, who eliminated the Lady Bulldogs with an 8-3 win.

 

 

 

Pleasant Home and Straughn met up in the next game, with the Lady Tigers knocking off the Lady Eagles, 6-0.

 

 

 

Stewart gave the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after scoring off a passed ball.

 

 

 

In the top of the third, Katelyn Kinsaul put the Lady Tigers on top 2-0 after scoring on an error.

 

 

 

Kinsaul scored again in the top of the fifth when Williamson drew a walk with the bases juiced.

 

 

 

The Lady Tigers added three more runs in the top of the sixth with RBIs from Sarah Langford, Armstrong and Kristin Peavey.

 

 

 

After the win over Pleasant Home, Straughn matched up with Dothan in the quarterfinals, but fell 9-1.

 

 

 

Paige Taylor gave Straughn an early 1-0 lead with a run scoring single in the top of the second inning that allowed Peavey to come around to score.

 

 

 

Willis was strong on the mound in the first four innings for Straughn, but errors and walks led to a nine-run inning from Dothan. The Lady Tigers just couldn’t recover after that, and were eliminated from the tournament by Dothan.

 

 

 

Dothan went on to beat Northview 7-2 in the semifinals, and beat PCA 5-2 and then 6-5 to take home the championship.
