Rain or shine: Rodeo on go

Despite the chance of showers and thunderstorms this weekend, Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo officials say the show must go on.
Opp Mayor John Bartholomew said this week that he thinks the majority of the rain will miss Opp.
“We’re looking for a good show both days,” he said. “We think the rain will miss us.”
The city did purchase rain insurance to be safe.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., and then a slight chance of showers after that. The high will be near 79.
On Sunday, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 78.
Yesterday, volunteers and vendors were busy readying for the weekend’s big event.
Gates open at 8 a.m., today, at Opp’s Channell-Lee Stadium.
Snake races will be at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2 p.m.
Saturday’s entertainment will include E-Town Band, County Road 440, Tori Reisnour, Karen Morris, Martin McDaniel, The Springs and Gary Allan, which is at 8 p.m.
Gates open at 10 a.m., on Sunday.
A special church service will be at 11.
Local talent will begin at 1:30 p.m., featuring Amanda Henderson, Bethany Huckabaa, Karen Morris, Annie Ball, J.O.E. (Jesus Owns Everything), John Tibbs, Finding Favour, Audio Adrenaline, Newsboys.
Tickets are $25 per day at the gate, and only cash is accepted there.
