“It doesn’t end here.” That is what Jade Self said about committing to Faulkner University in Montgomery to continue her basketball career with the Lady Eagles.
Self signed with Faulkner University Wednesday morning at Pleasant Home, and in a Faulkner Lady Eagles’ tradition signed with the same pen that every recruit signs with.
Self has been a star member of the Pleasant Home Lady Eagles basketball team for the past four years.
“I’m just excited to have this opportunity to keep playing,” Self said. “I’m glad it doesn’t end after high school.”
Self will join Faulkner’s junior varsity team, and looks forward to meeting her new teammates and getting to work on a starting job.
“They told me just to come in and work hard, and the best person will play,” Self said. “So that is what I’m going to do.”
It was her visit to Faulkner during basketball season that she credits with helping her decision.
“I had a couple of other schools interested,” Self said. “But when I visited the school, and met the coaches, I knew that it was where I wanted to be.”
Looking back on her time as a member of the Pleasant Home basketball team, Self said that her best memory was making it to the regional championship game in Dothan this past season.
“I want to God, my dad, my coaches and my teammates for helping me get here,” Self said.
Faulkner University assistant women’s basketball coach Kris Seigenthaler recruited Self, and felt she was the type of player that will fit in perfectly with the Lady Eagles’ style of basketball.
“She is a really high caliber player,” Seigenthaler said. “She is a blue-collar hard worker, and her drive is exactly what we want. She is the type of player that doesn’t need anyone around push her to get better, because she is going to do it on her own anyway. Whether it’s working on ball handling or working in the gym.”
Seigenthaler said the Lady Eagles have a great incoming recruiting class, and expects Self to hold down the backcourt along with the other guards.
