The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs outlasted the Florala Lady Wildcats for a 5-4 victory in extra innings Monday night in Andalusia.

 

It was a pitchers duel for the majority of the contest as Lady Wildcats’ pitcher Lily Ritzel and Lady Bulldogs’ pitcher Tessa Walker battled each other until the end of the game.

 

Ritzel reached in the top of the first with a single, but was thrown out trying to steal second.

 

In the bottom of the first, Ritzel punched out the Lady Bulldogs in order with three straight strikeouts.

 

Ritzel picked up two more strikeouts in the bottom of the second.

 

Walker gave up a single to start the top of the third, but retired the next three Wildcat batters to end the top half of the inning.

 

Aalyiah Lawrence picked up the first hit for the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the third, but Ritzel struck out the side to keep the score knotted at 0-0.

 

The Lady Wildcats jumped ahead in the top of the fourth when Callie Wise and Kristen Carnley each hit two-run home runs to put the Lady Wildcats up 4-0.

 

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth and the bases load, Haley Snider struck out swing, but the ball got past the catcher. Snider raced to first, and was called safe. There was a little confusion as to what was going on, and the Lady Bulldogs took advantage of the situation by scoring four runs as the Lady Wildcats thought they had ended the inning.

 

After the crazy fourth, the bats went quite again as both pitchers continued to dominate, and the game went into extra inning.

 

In the bottom of eight with one out, Lawrence was on third when Millie Manring slapped a hit toward second base. The ball was skipped of the glove of the Lady Wildcats’ second baseman allowing Lawrence to score the winning run.

 

Despite getting the lose, Ritzel was dominate on the mound. She allowed five hits, no earned runs and struck out a staggering 18 batters.

 

On the winning side, Walker finished with six hits allowed, two earned runs and six strikeouts.

 

“That was as bizarre of a game as I’ve seen,” Lady Bulldogs’ head coach Anthony Mikel said. “Both teams played well, and I thought both pitchers were outstanding. I was really proud of how the girls never gave up, and they just kept on fighting. Anytime you get a win it’s always a good thing.”
