County hires new attorney

The Covington County Commission on Tuesday selected Stacy Bryan Brooks as the new county attorney.
Brooks replaces Tom Albritton, who resigned when he was named executive director of the Alabama Ethics Commission.
Brooks practices with Jones and Jones in Andalusia.
Her work experience includes serving as prosecutor for he Town of Gantt; prosecutor for Covington County’s Drug Court and an assistant district attorney; and municipal judge for the Town of Lockhart. She also serves as a public defender or prosecutor for the City of Opp when needed.
Brooks is graduate of Jones School of Law, Troy University and Lurleen B. Wallace Junior College.
She is a member of the Covington County Bar Association; the Alabama State Bar Association; the National Association of Drug Court Professionals; and the Alabama Association of Drug Court Professionals.
Commissioners met in closed session for about 20 minutes before hiring Brooks on a motion from Joe Barton. Other attorneys who expressed interest in the job included Lee Enzor, Bill Alverson, and Linda and Sonny James. John Peek initially expressed interest, but withdrew his name from consideration on Monday.
