Native is new veteran’s service officer

Andalusia native Brian Foshee has traded his camouflage for a suit and tie, but his mission is still to serve.

Foshee recently retired after serving in the Marine Corps for 30 years, and was hired as the Covington County Veterans Service Officer.

Foshee said he began work on Feb. 17.

“I’m here for the veteran, their family members, dependents and survivors,” he said. “I’m here to help them apply for benefits.”

Foshee said the office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and is closed from noon until 1 p.m., for lunch.

“There are no appointments,” he said. “We serve on a first-come, first-serve basis.”

Foshee said any veteran can come to the Andalusia office.

“I’m blessed to be back and serve the veterans,” he said. “I’m not doing anything different than I did in the Marine Corps. I just traded the camouflage for a suit and tie.”

Foshee said when veterans and families come into the office, they know him, his late brother or his parents.

“I wanted to come back to serve the citizens and the morals I was raised in to tie a yellow ribbon around a tree, and to go to the altar on Sunday,” he said. “I left here to protect those morals at 19.”

He is a 1984 graduate of Andalusia High School.

The office is located in the Administration Building on Hillcrest Drive
