The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles eliminated the Georgiana Lady Panthers from playoff contention with a 50-21 victory Friday night in Dothan.

The Lady Eagles got 2 quick points from Cassidy Godwin to open up the first period. Jade Self followed with 2 more points, and an early 4-0 lead. The Lady Panthers got their first points from Zandreca Johnson. Godwin and Self gave the Lady Eagles an 8-2 lead with consecutive baskets. Tyanna Perkins picked up the Lady Panthers’ final points of the first period with a short jumper. Anna Bulger got her first points of the night with a layup off a fastbreak that put the Lady Eagles up 10-4. Godwin added her sixth point of the opening period, and River Baldwin put in 2 points to give the Lady Eagles a 14-4 lead heading into the second period. Godwin finished the first with 6 points, Self added 4 points, Bulger and Baldwin each had 2 points.

Baldwin started the second off with an easy layup under the basket. Perkins got point from free throws for the Lady Panthers. Baldwin added 4 consecutive points to give the Lady Eagles a 22-6. Johnnie Forehand broke into the scorebook with a 3-pointer from the corner with three minutes left in the second period. Baldwin added two more points on a short jumper. Forehand connected on two free throws. Self and Godwin each had 2 points in the second period to give the Lady Eagles a 31-10 lead at halftime.

Godwin opened the third by connecting with a short jumper. Self added 6 quick points after connecting on two straight 3-pointers. The Lady Eagles led 41-15 with just under two minutes in the third. Self had 6 points in the third period. Godwin and Camille Holley each had 2 points. The Lady Eagles were up 41-17 heading into the final frame.

The Lady Eagles startedd the fourth period off with a quck bucker from Baldwin. The Lady Eagles milked the clock for the next three minutes before Self buried a 3-pointer with just over three minutes left in the game. Godwin adde the next basket to give the Lady Eagles a 48-17 lead. The Lady Panthers had the next 4 points. Allison Catoe finished the scoring off for the Lady Eagles with basket with just seconds left on the clock. Catoe’s shot put the Lady Eagles by a final score of 50-21.

Perkins led the Lady Panthers with 11 points.

Self led the Lady Eagles with 15 points. Baldwin and Godwin each finished with 12 points. Godwin also added a game-high 17 rebounds, and Baldwin pulled down 10 boards.

“This was a very good win tonight,” Lady Eagles’ head coach Jerry Davis said. “We were able to take it inside like we wanted to. Playing inside is a big strength for us. Our game plan was to take it right at them. One thing that is difficult about playing at the Dothan Civic Center is that you have three sets of lines for 3-pointers (pro, college and high school), so it can throw you off your game if you are just looking at lines and not paying attention where you are. You have to play smart in these situations, and our girls did that tonight. Now we get ready for another chance at Brantley on Tuesday. It will take our best game of the season to beat them, and our girls know that. Brantley is a tough team. They aren’t the two-time defending state champions for nothing.”

The Lady Eagles will play the Brantley Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday of the South Regional Championship, and to decide who will represent the South in Birmingham next week.
