The new Family Dollar in Opp is slated to open in late spring, officials said Friday.

Bryn Winburn, public relations and media relations manager for the company, said the new location is located at 371 North Main Street in Opp, which is at the intersection of Main and Stewart.

The store will boast 8,300 square feet of retail space, which Winburn said is standard for new Family Dollar retail locations.

“We are looking to hire eight to 10 team members from within the community,” she said. “Obviously, we hope that our current team members at our location will come with us.”

Since this is a relocation, Winburn said the current location will stay open until the completion of the new one.

“We should have it completed by the time our lease runs out,” she said.

Winburn said the new location will allow for more product selection for customers.

“Last year we introduced more SKUs on our shelves,” she said. “We expanded our health and beauty selection and some of our clothing lines and added clothing items.”

Winburn said the current location places restrictions on how much they can sell due to its size.

“The new store will feature our new layout,” she said. “Everything is labeled very well, and the aisles are wider to provide an overall better experience for our shoppers.”
