A local woman landed herself two extra charges after she attempted to escape from a state trooper Monday morning.

Trooper Spokesperson Kevin Cook said that Trooper Kennedy stopped Melissa Cross, 36, on Sixth Avenue for driving under the influence.

“When Trooper Kennedy placed her under arrest, she got out of the patrol car,” he said. “She was arrested for escape and theft of property because she stole the handcuffs.”

Cross was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
