Lady Bulldogs trounce Lady Bobcats

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs powered past the Opp Lady Bobcats 52-15 Friday night in Andalusia for Senior Night.

 

In the first period, both teams struggled to get anything to drop. Senior Alexis Lawrence and Shay Thomas each had 2 points, and Aaliyah Lawrence added a free throw for the Lady Bulldogs to give them a 5-4 lead at the end of the first period.

 

Ariyon Hightower and Sierra Eldridge each had 2 points for the Lady Bobcats in the first period.

 

The Lady Bulldogs turned it up a notch in the second period with a 19-point outburst, and held the Lady Bobcats to just 6 points in the period. Frankie Vickrey, Tori Resinour and Eldridge had 2 points each for the Lady Bobcats.

 

The Lady Bulldogs got 5 points in the second period from Kimberly Landrum. Thomas and senior Tiesha Covington each finished the second period with 4 points to give the Lady Bulldogs a 24-10 lead at halftime.

 

The Lady Bulldogs kept their foot on the throttle in the third period, and continued to pour it on the Lady Bobcats. Alexis was all over the court in the third period, and finished the period with 11 points. Landrum accounted for 4 more points, and Alexandria Crittenden had 3 points to give the Lady Bulldogs a 44-15 lead heading into the final period.

 

Abby Cox and Eldridge each had 2 points for the Lady Bobcats.

 

The Lady Bulldogs let off on offense in the fourth period, but the defense was as tenacious as ever. The Lady Bulldogs didn’t allow a single point in the final period for a 52-15 victory on Senior Night. Aaliyah and Destene Shakespeare finished the fourth period with 4 points each.

 

Eldridge led the Lady Bobcats with 6 points, and Resinour ended the night with 3 points.

 

Alexis led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points and Landrum finished the night with 9 points.

 

“I was glad to win the final game of the regular season,” Lady Bulldogs’ head coach Brad Garner said. “We started off slow tonight, but we picked it up and got the job done. I was proud of the girls for doing that. We got to play everyone tonight, so that is a good way to end the regular season. Now we have two days to get ready for Straughn.”

 

The Lady Bobcats will travel to Brewton to face Hillcrest in the opening round of the area tournament Feb. 5, at 5 p.m.

 

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Ashford for the opening round of the area tournament. They will face off with the Straughn Lady Tigers on Feb. 4, at 5:30 p.m.
