Lady Bulldogs hold off Lady Rams

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs fought hard to earn a 34-27 victory over the Headland Lady Rams Tuesday night in Andalusia.
The Lady Bulldogs fell behind early in the first period, and trailed 9-5 going into the second. Alexis and Aaliyah Lawrence had 2 points each for the Lady Bulldogs in the first period. Merikal McCaskill ended the first period with 1 point.
The Lady Bulldogs bounced back with their best period of the night to take a 16-14 lead into the locker room at halftime. Alexis had 4 points for the Lady Bulldogs in the period. Aaliyah and McCaskill each had 2 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
In the third period, the Lady Bulldogs continued to shoot the ball well. Alexis paced the Lady Bulldogs with 5 points, and Aaliyah chipped in 3-points for the Lady Bulldogs to help increase the lead to 26-20 heading into the final period.
The Lady Rams tried to mount a comeback in the fourth period, but the Lady Bulldogs finished the final minutes strong to defeat the Lady Rams 34-27. Shay Thomas paced the Lady Bulldogs with 4 points, including a 2-for-2 trip to the free throw line.
Alexis led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points. Aaliyah and Thomas finished with 7 points each.
“We were fortunate to get the win,” Lady Bulldogs’ head coach Brad Garner said. “We were able to overcome a lot of turnovers, and mistakes. We played hard, and the girls really got after it tonight. We keep getting better, but we still have room to improve.”
The Lady Bulldogs will host the Straughn Lady Tigers Friday night.
