Merchants ready for returns

Returns and day after Christmas shopping are expected to be steady at local stores, and many merchants have prepared with sales and return policies.
Walmart and Goody’s will be having day after Christmas sales, and both are expecting steady returns.
“The trend for us is returns before Christmas,” Walmart General Manager Christie Burns said. “But we’ll stay pretty steady. A lot of people have been purchasing gift cards as presents, so we’ve noticed a decline in returns.”
Burns said the return policy for Walmart is if there is no receipt, people will need to present a photo ID and a gift card will be issued.
“We’re going to be having extra registers open just to handle refunds today,” Burns said. “All of our Christmas inventory will be half off, as well.”
Assistant manager of Goody’s, Kala Ison, said as long as a gift receipt is presented, a return can be made for a gift card or exchange.
“We highly recommend people get a gift receipt with their purchase,” JCPenney Manager Tameka Belcher said.
Belcher said with a gift receipt, people can return items for the full retail value, instead of a gift card or exchange at the last sale price.
The store will be open today from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and will have many after Christmas sales, bonuses and specials.
Local merchants Pink Peppers, Christopher’s, Town and Country, Walker’s and Ward and Co., have return policies specific to each store.
Christopher’s accepts exchanges or store credit with a receipt within 30 days of purchase, but does not offer refunds.
No receipt is needed at Town and Country, but an in-store exchange needs to be made within 30 days.
Town and Country will be closed for the holidays until Mon., Dec. 29.
Mike Ward with Ward and Co. said he accepts store credit and returns on purchases with tags still intact, but only until Jan. 1.
Ward said there will be many specials on clothes throughout the store this weekend, and a large sale rack of jackets in the front.
Walkers will be open Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with specials on Christmas items and Sorrelli Jewelry.
Allen Walker said the store accepts exchanges or store credit with a receipt within 14 days of purchase. He said for sales items all sales are finale.
Pink Peppers requires a receipt and original tags to return for store credit, and returns must be made within 60 days.
The store will be open today from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with storewide sales.
“Holiday items are 50 percent off, and select lines will be 30 to 40 percent off,” Marrianne Dubose said. “We have a naughty and nice table with 50 to 75 percent off original retail price, and includes some $10 groupings and $5 grab bags of jewelry.”
