The Red Level Lady Tigers used a strong second half to defeat the Opp Lady Bobcats 31-27 last night in Opp.

 

The Lady Tigers fell behind early, as the Lady Bobcats came out shooting strong. At the end of the first period, the Lady Bobcats led 10-2. Lady Bobcats’ Breanna White and Anna Harrellson both knocked down 3-pointers in the period.

 

In the second period, the Lady Tigers fought back into the game. Lady Tigers’ Shelby Holley and Kayla Hinson accounted for 4 points each in the period. The Lady Bobcats held a slim 14-12 lead at halftime. White drained another 3-pointer to keep the score in the Lady Bobcats’ favor.

 

Defensively, the Lady Tigers stepped up their game in the third period. They only allowed 4 points from the Lady Bobcats in the third. The Lady Tigers took the lead in the waning seconds of the third. Hinson stole the ball near half court, and then dropped in a layup to give the Lady Tigers a 20-18 lead heading into the final period.

 

The fourth period started with the Lady Tigers out front, but it didn’t take long before the Lady Bobcats regained the lead. With just under four minutes to play, White sank her third 3-pointer, to give the Lady Bobcats a 23-22 lead. Less than a minute later, Hinson put the Lady Tigers up for good. With just over three minutes left, Hinson sank two free throws to give the Lady Tigers a 24-23 lead. The Lady Tigers would go on a 6-0 run over the next two minutes to seal the victory.

 

White led the Lady Bobcats with 9 points, and Harrellson added 8 points.

 

“We played hard, but we have faced a tough schedule early this season,” Lady Bobcats’ head coach Jim Larson. “We have some girls that have been cheerleading, and they haven’t had a chance to practice much. They are very good leaders, and that will help us when they start getting a feel for it. It was good for these girls to play against a team that they can compete with. We haven’t had any close games yet this year, so we didn’t play well down the stretch. They did all they could do, and that’s all you can ask for, and I’m proud of them.”

 

Hinson and Holley both chipped in 12 points to lead the Lady Tigers in scoring.

 

“That’s what I used to would call an ugly win, but the girls played hard and pulled out the win,” Lady Tigers head coach Allen Catrett said. “We started off slow tonight, and we can’t keep putting ourselves in holes to dig out of. We are much better playing ahead than we are from behind.”
