Lady Bulldogs outlast Lady Panthers

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs used a strong second half effort to defeat the Georgiana Lady Panthers 50-48.
The game was close the entire night, but the Lady Panthers had an 11-6 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs were taking strong shots, but couldn’t get much to fall in the early goings.
The Lady Panthers started pulling away during the second period, but hustle and determination keep the Lady Bulldogs alive. By the time the first half came to a close the Lady Bulldogs had worked the way to only being down 23-19.
The Lady Bulldogs really came out in third playing tight defense, and the offense did a great job at converting second chance opportunities. In the closing minutes of the third period, the Lady Bulldogs managed to gain a 33-29 lead.
The fourth period saw the Lady Panthers take a lead with just over a minute left in the game, 48-45. With 32 seconds left on the clock, the Lady Bulldogs’ Kiesha Comer hit a jumper from 5-feet to pull the Lady Bulldogs within 1. Then with 12 seconds left on the clock, Alex Crittenden was fouled, and headed to line for a one-and-one opportunity. The first shot was good, tying the game at 48-48. The second shot missed, but Lady Bulldog Merikal McCaskill grabbed the rebound and put it back up for 2 points. The Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Panthers without a basket in the waning seconds to secure a 50-48 victory.
The Lady Bulldogs’ leading scorer was Alexis Lawrence with 19 points. Comer accounted for 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
“I’m proud of the girls for coming out here and winning a close one,” Lady Bulldogs’ head coach Brad Garner said. “We still have a lot to work on, but when you keep plugging away and getting after it good things happen. I thought we took good shots tonight, but sometimes it looked like there was a lid the basket.”
