The Pleasant Home Eagles defeated the Red Level Tigers 62-50 in the Straughn Christmas Tournament last night. The win was Eagles’ head coach Troy Turman’s 100^th career varsity win.

 

The Eagles started off strong, pulling out front 7-1 early in the first. At the end of the first period, the Eagles lead 12-9.

 

Both teams started shooting better in the second period, but a 9-4 run by the Eagles in the final four minutes of the first half put them up 26-21. The Eagles’ Avery Myrick had two big buckets late in the half to extend the Eagles’ lead.

 

In the third period, both teams continued to shoot well, but the Eagles made the most of second chance opportunities and pulled out to a 43-36 lead after three periods of play.

 

In the fourth period the Eagles’ offense soared, scoring 19 points, to give the Eagles a 62-50 win.

 

The Eagles shot well the whole game and dominated the glass. The Tigers got good performances from Jeffery Purdue and Dameyune Scott, but couldn’t overcome the tenacity of the Eagles.

 

Troy Fantroy was once again the leading scorer for the Eagles with 26 points. Avery Myrick and Jase Beck each chipped in 8 points for the Eagles.

 

“We are trying to learn to play together, and tonight we did that a lot better,” Turman said. “We built up some confidence in the second half, and finished the game off like we need to. I was really proud of the guys for coming out, and playing like this after a tough loss last night. I’m just proud of the team, and everyone did a great job tonight.”

 

The Tigers were led in scoring by Purdue with 17 points and Scott with 10 points.

 

“We didn’t rebound well tonight,” Tigers’ head coach Allen Catrett said. “Pleasant Home shot the ball well, and you can’t give teams like that second and third shot opportunities. We dug ourselves in a hole, and made it hard on ourselves. A few more shots fall and few more rebounds, it would have been a different ball game.”

 

Pleasant Home will face New Brockton today at 10:30 a.m. and Red Level will face G.W. Long at 9 a.m..
