The Florala Wildcats’ seventh grade boys knocked off the Pleasant Home Eagles 25-15, in the championship game of the Covington County Middle School tournament.

 

The Wildcats took advantage of early opportunities, and came out with a 10-2 lead after the first period.

 

The Eagles surged back in the second period with Logan Royal dropping 4 points in the period, to cut into the Wildcats’ lead. At half time the Wildcats held on to a 17-12 lead.

 

A stout defensive effort from the Wildcats held the Eagles scoreless in the third period, and Lee Stewart got a hot hand, scoring 5 points in the third. The Wildcats expanded their lead to 24-12 after three periods.

 

The fourth period was fairly quiet for both teams. The Wildcats held on to the ball tightly, when they were in possession, to run out the clock for the win. The championship game ended with Wildcats victorious over the Eagles.

 

“These guys worked hard all year to get to this point, and I’m very proud of these group of kids,” Wildcats’ head coach Troy Stewart said. “I look forward to coaching this group for years to come.”

 

Stewart controlled the offense for the Wildcats with 12 points. Jacob Hammac tallied 5 points for the Wildcats.

 

“We started off good, but into foul trouble,” Eagles’ head coach Troy Turman said. “We fought back in the second period, but we couldn’t finish. Credit Florala for dribbling well, and keeping the ball away from us. The foul trouble really hurt us bad.”

 

The seventh grade All-Tournament team included: Jeb Thomasson (Straughn), Brenden Douglas and Jacob Price (Pleasant Home), Logan West, Lee Stewart and Jacob Hammac (Florala)
