Florala residents with unlocked cars may have noticed missing items from their vehicles when going to work this week.
Florala Police Chief Sonny Bedsole received reports that three aged males were rifling through vehicles left unlocked during the night.
“We had a couple of residents who saw them, but unfortunately no one called the police to report anything,” Bedsole said. “They also didn’t notify us until this morning about missing the items. Cell phones and loose change were taken, that’s what people were saying was gone.”
Bedsole said they are following up on some leads as to who the men were, but no arrests have been made at this time.
The thefts occurred mainly on the east side of town, he said.
“From the Florida line and Lake Jackson to Fifth Avenue,” Bedsole said. “We also heard reports in Paxton, but that’s Walton County’s case.”
He said that some residents saw the men, but no one called.
“One lady saw the men out at her car and mashed her panic button to scare them off,” Bedsole said. “But she didn’t contact the police.”
Bedsole recommends residents lock their vehicles, and report any out-of-place activity.
“If you see any suspicious activity or suspicious persons in the neighborhood, report it to the authorities,” Bedsole said. “That way we can have a chance to identify these persons, and hopefully cut back on some of the crime.”
