Red Level and Pleasant Home ended their seasons Friday night in the first round of the Class 2A and 1A state playoffs, respectively.

The Tigers fell to Flomaton 16-6 in the first game, and 9-5 in the second game. The Eagles lost 7-0 in the first game, and 16-3 in the second game to Sweet Water.

Red Level ended its season with a 9-18 record, and Pleasant Home ended its season with a 7-13 record.

Red Level held a 3-0 lead in the first game, Jordan Walker got injured and from there, head baseball coach Tony Ingram said the team “fell apart.”

“We just ran out of gas,” Ingram said.

In the second game, the Tigers held a 5-3 advantage going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Flomaton scored six runs to take the night cap win.

“I was proud of the way they came out and played,” Ingram said. “We’ve got a lot of younger guys coming up next year, and I’m expecting a good year out of them.”

The only positive thing that came out of Pleasant Home’s try for the second round came when Hunter Greathouse hit a two-run home run during the second game, PHS head baseball coach Cody McCain said.

“Overall,” McCain said. “Sweet Water has a little more talent than we’ve got. We got behind early, and were trying to play catch up. They were just better than us.”

McCain said he’s looking forward to next year because of the personnel coming back.

“We’ve got a lot of kids coming back next year,” he said. “I hope they see what needs to be done for us to improve. I think some of the younger kids played a bigger role on the team.

“I hope this will give them more motivation to continue to work hard,” he said.
