A holiday package delivered to a local residence last week has landed three people in the Covington County Jail.

Covington County Drug Task Force investigators received information that a delivery service had been used to ship an unknown amount of marijuana to a residence at 609 College St.

When investigators conducted a “knock and talk” at the residence, they detected the odor of marijuana. During a search of the house, two pounds of the substance was found.

“We know this was shipped through a postal carrier from California and was suspected to contain up to 6 pounds,” DTF agent Greg Jackson said.

Agents found packages of marijuana wrapped in pack and seal bags and electrical tape to conceal the odor.

Jackson said he believed the suspects had already begun selling the product, which was two ounces short the amount needed for a trafficking charge.

Clayton Akiwenzie, a California native, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. Akiwenzie is being held on a $13,000 bond.

Alexis Parker and Irene Spooner were also arrested on charges on possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia, each with a $10,500 bond.

Jackson said the investigation continues and more arrests are forthcoming.
