The Pleasant Home Eagles’ eighth grade boys toppled the the Florala Wildcats’ eighth grade boys 39-36 in an overtime thriller Wednesday in Pleasant Home.

The game went back and forth the entire contest with neither team able to pull away from the other.

The Eagles led 19-12 at half time, but saw that lead disappear by the end of the third.

The fourth period started with the Eagles trailing 23-22, and it appeared like the Wildcats might start pulling away. The Eagles fought their way back and with just as the buzzer was sounding, the Eagles’ Josh Ruth sank one from a few feet out to tie the game at 34-34.

The Eagles managed 5 points in overtime and the Wildcats only managed 2 points.

“I’m frustrated with all the missed lay-ups, and free throws,” Wildcats’ head coach Troy Stewart said. “Glad our guys fought back and stayed in it. Now we just have to learn to finish close games.

Leroy Mitchell led the the Wildcats with 14 points. Tank Sanders had 8 points for the Wildcats.

“My guys understand what it takes to when,” Eagles’ head coach Troy Turman said. “To turn the ball over as much as we did, and for them to still fight back and get the win. I’m proud of them.
