An Andalusia man is now behind bars after he was allegedly caught dealing in multiple marijuana “buys.”

Assistant Drug Task Force Commander Paul Hudson said agents ended a “long investigation” with the arrest of 23-year-old Cornelius Deundra Byrd Friday.

“Over the past months, we have conducted numerous undercover operations during which narcotics were purchased from Byrd,” Hudson said. “The total number of ‘buys’ made from him during the operations was five.

“When agents went to take Byrd into custody at an Andalusia hotel parking lot, they also discovered an amount of marijuana in the vehicle Byrd was driving,” he said. “Through further investigation, it was determined that Byrd possessed that marijuana for more than personal use.”

As a result, Byrd was charged with five counts of distribution of a controlled substance, one count of first-degree possession of marijuana and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. His was booked into the Covington County Jail and held on a $513,000.

“As DTF Commander Mark Odom has said recently, the meth labs are indeed picking back up, and we are putting a great deal of time into those; however, those who choose to peddle and sell other types of drugs in Covington County shouldn’t think that we will forget them,” Hudson said. “If you sell drugs in Covington County, we will catch you – most times, sooner than later.”
