Blake Donaldson and the rest of the Florala Wildcats knew that last week’s win over Pleasant Home would present itself with a great opportunity to make the playoffs.
Donaldson co-led the team with seven tackles in the Wildcats’ 41-14 victory over the Eagles to earn himself The Star-News Player of the Week honors.
“We realized that if we won (last week’s game), we would have a better chance of making the playoffs,” Donaldson said. “We were all just clicking.”
Donaldson said everybody saw the game as important.
With a healthy 41-0 lead in the third quarter, Donaldson said he started feeling good about his game.
“We were dominating on both sides of the ball mentally and physically,” the senior linebacker said.
This week’s game against Kinston is a crucial one for the Wildcats as they are fighting for the No. 4 seed going into the playoffs. A win would get FHS a berth to the postseason, but a loss would spell the end of the season.
Kinston narrowly beat Red Level 8-6 last week. FHS topped RLHS 40-28 on Sept. 12.
Donaldson has been playing his favorite sport since the third grade, going on 10 years.
Donaldson is the son of Shannon and Anna Donaldson of Florala.
