Standing in the back row during any ordinary volleyball match, Andalusia senior libero Stephanie Watts waits patiently before she can strike.

All season, Watts has been putting her consistent play on display for the Lady Bulldogs as they enter the Class 4A South Super Regional on Friday in Montgomery.

Watts said she thinks her senior season has gone well.

“It’s been great for me, but we went 10-11 (now 11-12 after the area tournament),” she said. “We’ve been doing better.”

Match in and match out, the key to her consistency is staying focused, Watts said.

“I don’t focus on what’s going on around me,” she said. “I don’t focus on the stands.”

It was evident at times Tuesday night in the Class 4A, Area 2 tournament at Straughn.

Watts chased down loose shots and put the ball in play for her teammates.

When asked what her most difficult game was to play in this year, Watts said it was any match against SHS.

“They’re really good,” she said. “They’re being our rival team makes it harder to play.”

Watts said the Lady Tigers’ hit the ball in the correct spots.

“It’s not that hard, but they place it well,” she said. “It’s hard to read where they’re going to place it.”

Later this week, Watts and the Lady Bulldogs will play Leeds at 9 a.m. on Friday in the first round of the regional tournament.

Watts said she’s a little anxious, but ready for the challenge.

“I’m kind of nervous, but I see us doing well,” Watts said. “Every time we get to regionals, we normally do better than expected. We always do better.”

Watts said she has no regrets from the season.

“I’ve just left everything out there on the court,” she said.
