Local schools are participating in the State Farm: Celebrate My Drive campaign to raise awareness on teen driving safety and the chance to win grants up to $100,000.

Local State Farm agent Sharyn Smith is sponsoring the event and working with local schools to spread awareness for the campaign and its message.

The message of the program is 2N2: two eyes on the road, two hands on the wheel.

“If you’re 14 or older, you can take a safe driving commitment and vote once a day through Oct. 24,” Smith said.

Schools registered with the campaign can win one of 90 $25,000 grants, one of 10 $100,000 grants or the grand prize of a concert by The Band Perry.

Opp, Straughn, Pleasant Home and Andalusia high schools have registered with the State Farm program, and AHS has already begun activities to promote the campaign.

During an event at AHS, students were invited to register with State Farm, take the safe driver pledge and vote for their school to receive the grants offered.

Smith said anyone can vote and encourages those in the community to become involved.

Charlotte Spurlin, AHS Peer Helper sponsor, said her students were excited to partner with the State Farm campaign because of the benefits of the program.

“It will really bring about a greater community awareness,” Spurlin said. “There are so many things that are already in place that we can just put with what we normally do.”
