MARION ELMER DAVIS
The Rev. Marion Elmer Davis, 86 (two weeks short of his 87th birthday), born Oct. 28, 1927, in Samson, died Oct. 14, 2014, at a health care facility in Robertsdale, with his wife of more than 66 years, Helen Myrtice Hall Davis, and family by his side.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Fri., Oct.17, at Bethany Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m., Friday at the church.
He was married to Helen Myrtice Hall of Heath on June 14, 1948.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Wallace T. (Barbara) Davis of Mobile, Judy Davis of Mobile and Martha Davis (Buddy) Griffin of Lineville; seven grandchildren, Capt. Joshua (Brooke) Davis of El Paso, Texas, David (Kimberly) Griffin of Lake Charles, La.; Mandy (Kevin) Wilburn of Cullman, Lindy Griffin of Nashville, Tenn., Jarred (Stephanie) Griffin of Lineville, Katy (Steve) Yeend of Daphne and Judd (Missy) Rew of Mobile; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Harlan Davis of Mobile; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Era Andrews of Heath; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be David Griffin, Jarred Griffin, Steve Yeend, Judd Rew, Carl Davis and Kendall Andrews.
The Rev. Davis was a graduate of Troy University, with a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and AA certification from Auburn University. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He served as pastor at various churches, including Damascus Baptist Church, Hopewell Baptist Church, Sanford Baptist Church, Coldwater Congregational Church and Liberty Home Baptist Church. His ministry spanned more than 50 years. His career in education spanned 25 years as a teacher and principal.
The family celebrates his life here and are overjoyed at his new home in Heaven.
