Covington County commissioners expect to meet again Friday to determine who they will name as the next county administrator.

Commissioners interviewed five candidates in an open meeting Tuesday. When the issue of hiring an administrator arose, on Wednesday, they recessed their regular meeting until 9 a.m. Friday

Commissioner Kenneth Northey said he is losing sleep over the decision.

“It’s something that’s just over me right now,” he said. “Nothing has just jumped straight out at me to say yes.”

But Commission Chairman Bill Godwin, who has largely been cut out of the selection process by other commissioner said, “I don’t guess I’m losing any sleep because I don’t have any say-so.”

The commission limited applications to those already employed by the county.

The five applicants are Patricia Gunter, Susan Harris, Kiep Johnson, Karen Lawson Sowell and Alan Syler.
