The Andalusia Bulldogs throttled the Bullock County Hornets 34-6 Friday night for a homecoming victory.
The Bulldogs opened the game up quickly with a score just a few plays into the first drive. Senior quarterback Brayden Burkhardt made a perfect read on an option and scored easily on a 38-yard run to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.
Trezman Palmer and the Hornets were only able to find the end zone once on the Bulldogs hard-hitting defense. Palmer was able to score on a 9-yard run that capped off the Hornets first and only scoring drive.
Burkhardt and the Bulldogs struck right back. Sophomore Jamal Hourel scored on the second play of the drive with a 21-yard touchdown run. Burkhardt connected with Devante Jackson for a 25-yard catch to set up the Bulldogs just outside the Hornets 20 yard line on the previous play.
The Bulldogs next score came on the defensive side of the ball, when Shaun Bogan scooped up a Hornet fumble and carried it 20 yards untouched to give the Bulldogs a 20-6 lead.
After another fumble by the Hornets the Bulldogs needed just one pass from Burkhardt to Jackson to get in the end zone. Jackson beat his man on a fly and Burkhardt dropped a pass right into his breadbasket for a 31-yard touchdown and a 27-6 score.
The Bulldogs capped the scoring off with a second defensive touchdown. Kendarious Townsend anticipated the pass from Palmer and stepped in front of the wide receiver for an interception then raced 22 yards for the touchdown. Giving the Bulldogs a final score of 34-6.
“I was happy with the way we executed on offense, but penalties killed us, “ said Andalusia head coach Brian Seymore. “Defense played very well in the second half, and now we are just looking for our first real, clean game without all the penalties,” Seymore said.
With the win the Bulldogs improve to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the area. The Bulldogs will travel to Headland next Friday night.
