Bethel A.M.E. Church is encouraging residents to strengthen their spiritual walk during their fourth annual Christian Walk-A-Thon.
“This is our fourth year, and it originally started out as a church fundraiser,” chairperson Annie Glover said. “We decided to make it an annual affair just to remind people of the health benefits of walking and to encourage people of the need to strengthen their spiritual walk.”
Glover said the Churches theme is “the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord” and members use this to increase faith and spiritual participation.
The walk will be held Sat., Oct. 11, at Kirkpatrick Park and the trails will be mapped out, she said.
Sign-in will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 9 a.m., followed by a brief devotional, with the walk beginning afterward.
“Participants are allowed to walk as long as they want to, but they usually walk for about an hour,” she said. “The walk is followed by lunch, door prizes and fellowship, which is about an hour.”
The prizes to be raffled off include gift cards donated by local restaurants including David’s Catfish, Crow’s Nest, Little Caesars and Beef ‘O’ Brady’s, Glover said.
Other merchant sponsors will be Walmart and Cost Plus, which will donate water and other supplies, she said.
“We just invite people to come out and join us,” she said.
The deadline for registration is Sat., Oct. 5 and forms are available through the church.
