Pleasant Home’s junior varsity football team put together a four-quarter effort to beat Kinston 28-12 on Tuesday night at Eagles Field.

Robert Scott led PHS with three touchdown receptions in the game. Josh Ruth scored the first TD on the ground.

Eagles coach Troy Turman said the Eagles, who picked up their second win of the season, executed well.

“The main thing was that the guys played four quarters,” Turman said. “Even when we won our other game against Florala, we played bad in the fourth quarter. They played all four quarters with heart and confidence, and executed real well on offense.”

Scott’s TD receptions came in the first, second and third quarters of the game. Ruth scored his rushing touchdown in the first.

Pleasant Home went ahead 14-0 and by halftime, was up 20-6.

Kinston scored right from the gate at the start of the third quarter.

The Eagles then marched all the way down the field to the 1-yard line, where an interception was thrown after a penalty.

With the score at 20-12, the Eagles held the Bulldogs, got the ball back and scored to go up 28-12 in the third quarter. Rico Bovino nabbed the 2-point conversion, his second of the game.

Turman said the passing game was one of the biggest differences in the contest.

“We had to catch it and did a good job of not dropping them,” he said.

Turman said the difference between the Florala win and the Kinston win is that the boys seem to understand what it takes to pull out a victory.

“We kept fighting all the way to the end,” Turman said. “We didn’t let our guard down. The kids are starting to understand what it takes to win.”

The Eagles will be back in action J.U. Blacksher.
