Following the instructions of Matthew 25:40, South Church of God near Red Level is working to reach out and minister to members of the community who are in need of food.
“It was started out of South Church of God’s desire to reach out and minister to our community,” Pastor John Chappelle said Thursday. “We concluded that this food pantry is the best place to begin.”
Chappelle said the pantry is open to anyone who is in need.
“Jesus said, ‘Inasmuch as yet have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me,’” Chappelle said, quoting from Matthew 25:40. “That said, we do have a protocol in place so that we can be sure that we are truly ministering to the least of these.”
Chappelle said though there is a certain protocol clients must follow, the church will not make recipients jump through hurdles to receive food from the pantry.
“It is our desire to minister in the spirit of Isaiah 58:7, to feed the hungry, minister to the poor and clothe those who are without,” he said. “We genuinely want to feed, bless and love as many as possible.”
