A little variety has come to Gantt, thanks to one couple.
Lucky Stuff Variety Resale is a local consignment shop that opened recently on Hwy. 29 in Gantt.
The couple, John Dungey and Tanya Bales, are lovers of flea markets and thrift stores and wanted to share this in their area, they said.
“There’s nothing else like this in Gantt,” Dungey said.
“We get new stuff every day,” Bales said. “So that’s something that kind of differentiates us from other stores.
“And we have unique items compared to your typical thrift shop,” she said.
Since opening the store almost six weeks ago, Bales said business is good.
“Some days are better than others, but as a whole everyone’s been excited about it,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of people excited that there’s a young couple starting something new in the area.”
Both owners are 29 years old, and they are originally from Central Florida.
Bales said she has been in the area for 11 years and Dungey moved to the area before the summer.
The couple began this venture because of their love of thrift stores, Bales said.
“We started out doing a flea market booth at Just Stuff in Opp,” Bales said. “We had so much inventory in our shed that we decided to open here.
The location was picked because of the proximity to their home.
“We live a mile away,” Dungey said.
Visiting yard sales and storage units has helped the couple keep up the variety of merchandise available, they said, but they also buy from individuals and do trades.
“We buy from individuals, we buy at yard sales, storage units, and we do trades,” Bales said.
They have discussed having a grand opening once the store is a little more organized, they said.
“We started off with makeshift shelving, and we’ve been building up since then,” Bales said.
The couple plans to have a mural painted on the side of the building by a local artist. The theme they said would be patriotic and also pertain to Gantt.
The store is located at the intersection of Hwy. 29 and Point A road.
Store hours are Monday through Satuday, 9 to 6 p.m. and Sundays 9 to 12 p.m.
