Eagles aim to get better despite injuries

Despite having to deal with the injury bug, Pleasant Home’s aim is to still get better with each passing game.
The Eagles visit Notasulga for a non-region contest tonight without two of their top running backs in Jon Cole Chesser (ACL) and Reid Adams (MCL).
Chesser is out for the season, and Adams will miss 3-4 weeks after having surgery next week..
“We’ve had to do some rearranging offensively and defensively,” PHS head football coach Chris Mason said. “It gives kids the opportunity to step up and fill those shoes and become a bigger part of the scheme.”
Jase Beck, Brayton Douglas and Austin Hall will now be getting reps on the ground fullback. Justin Helms and DJ Veasey will also see action at tailback.
“Our line is getting better every week,” Mason said.
In action last week, Notasulga beat Red Level 28-7, while the Eagles took a bitter 42-9 loss to McKenzie.
Mason said NHS is athletic.
“I think we match up a little bit better with them than last week against McKenzie,” Mason said. “If we play mistake-free, as far as, no turnovers and sustain long drives while controlling the ball and the defense keeping the ball in front them, then we’ll be OK. We’re doing a lot of chasing. We’ve got to do a better job of tackling.”
Mason said he still “believes” in the players he has right now.
“I preach every week to them that there’s going to be obstacles and challenges,” he said. “I’m really looking into the future of this team, and I’m interested in seeing how this team responds to adversity.”
Mason said he’s anxious to see how the kids play this week after such a tough last couple weeks.
“It’ll be excited to see who fits where and who is going to step up and play in their role,” he said.
