Brent Hill knows that Mike DuBose will have his players ready tonight as Opp visits Luverne for the Bobcats’ season opener at Glenn Daniel Stadium.

“I talked to coach DuBose before this week and one thing I do know is that a couple of my former players play for him at Millsaps (College), and he’s just an excellent coach,” Hill said. “Going into this game, you have to have the mind set of not making mistakes. He will have his guys ready.”

DuBose, an Opp native and former Alabama head football coach, enters his second season as the Tigers’ head football coach. Last season, LHS finished in the Class 2A state semifinals, losing a heartbreaker to the Sweet Water Bulldogs, 34-24.

This season, the Tigers have Kenterius Womack, a senior, at quarterback. Womack, at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, threw for 2,700 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2013.

Hill said it’s going to not only be a good game, but a challenge, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

“They have an unbelievable defensive line,” he said. “It’s going to be a fun challenge.”

As far as what the keys on offense are tonight, Hill said it depends on what the Tigers do on the defensive side.

DuBose came back to Luverne last year and served as coach from 2003-05. He became the Crimson Tide’s head football coach on Jan. 1, 1997 when Alabama played Michigan in the Outback Bowl.

In a special publication for The Star-News, DuBose said family was the main reason he became the head coach at Bama.

“I wouldn’t be here without them,” DuBose said. “I was very fortunate to grow up in a home that was full of love and a lot of discipline. My mom and dad taught me to be honest, to work hard and they taught me to have a genuine concern for mankind.”

Kick off tonight is at 7, and Hill said not only are the players excited, but the coaching staff is, too.

“They’ve done everything I’ve asked them to do,” Hill said. “Now, we’ve just got to improve each week.”
