The town of River Falls is working to give its residents some recreational opportunities.
Mayor Pro Tem Mattie Freeney said a pavilion was recently built and plans are to install grills, games, bathrooms, and a walking trail.
“Our next step is the walking trail,” she said. “Plans are for it to encircle all of the town hall property. It will be similar to Robinson Park in Andalusia.”
Freeney anticipates the walking trail work will get under way in September.
Freeney said the town plans to place horse shoes, badminton, volleyball and other games at the trail for residents to enjoy.
“We want it to be a place where the townspeople can gather and build better relationships,” she said. “It’s going to be a place to hang out and have town picnics and festivals.”
Recently, the town received a $5,199 grant from the Wiregrass RC&D to help cover the costs of the pavilion.
“We are raising money to fund the rest,” Freeney said.
