Yant named DYW

Alli Yant was named Covington County’s 2015 Distinguished Young Woman Saturday night.
Yant, a rising AHS senior, captured the fitness, self expression and interview categories in her quest to be named DYW.
The daughter of Beverly and Jim Yant is an AHS senior. She is active in Southside Baptist Church, is a varsity cheerleader, a member of the National Honor Society, and studies with Andalusia Dance, Tumbling and Cheer.
She earned $3,750 in cash scholarships.
First alternate was Carson Posey, who won the talent portion of the competition with her performance of Never Alone by Lady Antebellum. The AHS senior is the daughter of Daphne Lowery Posey and Shannon and Tracy Posey.
She earned $2,250 in cash scholarships.
Second alternate was Shelby Meeks, who also is an AHS senior. She is the daughter of Dennis and Althea Meeks. She earned a $1,500 cash scholarship.
Third alternate was Sydney O’Brien, and AHS senior and the daughter of Michelle O’Brien and Jerry O’Brien. She earned a $1,250 cash scholarship.
Emily Theus was named fourth alternate. She is an AHS senior and the daughter of Susan and Robbie Theus. She earned a $1,000 cash scholarship.
This year’s little sisters were Elizabeth McCalman, Hannah McCalman, Halle Burkhardt, Heidi Cross, Haley Booker, Kayla Mitchell, Olivia Jones, Taran Carrasco, Peyton Prevett, Shelby Matthews, Katie Lambert, Belle Spurlin, Caroline Andrews and Amy Hines.
Cathy Powell is the program director. Jerry Wishum, technical director, was assisted by Mason Wishum. Shelly Wagoner and Ander Helms choreographed the show
