A traffic stop on Antioch Road quickly became a manhunt for Covington County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday evening.

According to information released by Chief Deputy David Anderson, deputy Paige Spivey initiated a traffic stop at approximately 7:15 p.m. on a vehicle being driven by William Jason Weed. Anderson said Spivey had knowledge of an outstanding warrant issued for Weed for felony violation of probation.

“When Deputy Spivey approached the vehicle, William Jason Weed exited it and ran from the scene,” Anderson said in a press release. “Deputy Spivey began a foot pursuit of the suspect.”

Anderson said Spivey lost sight of the suspect, but doubled back to the vehicle after hearing it crank back up.

“He ran back and stopped the vehicle again because he thought the suspect may have made it back to the vehicle,” Anderson said.

Instead, Spivey detained the driver of the vehicle and wife of the suspect, Tina Ann Weed, as well as passengers Shane Allen Jackson and Linda Stanton Jackson.

Anderson said none of the suspects were willing to cooperate with deputies and each person was subsequently charged with hindering prosecution and resisting arrest. Anderson said a caseworker from the Department of Human Resources was also notified due to the presence of several young children in the vehicle.

Anderson said deputies later received information that Weed was dropped off at the intersection of Antioch and Rose Hill roads by a resident who had chosen to give him a ride. The K9 tracking team of the Covington County Sheriff’s Posse responded to the scene, where dogs picked up “a strong scent,” and were able to track Weed through a cotton field to Five Points Road, where he was apprehended by a deputy. Weed was transported to the Covington County Jail and charged with violation of probation, attempting to elude, and resisting arrest. All four suspects were held without bond.
