No election needed for Opp City Schools

There will be no changes for the Opp City Schools board of education this year, as the qualifying period ended Tuesday with no new candidates emerging.
Up for grabs this year were BOE seats in district 1, 2 and 4. In all three districts, only the incumbent candidates qualified. In District 1, current representative Alan Thrash will gain another term; current District 2 representative Dr. Walter Burgess will serve again; and, in District 4, William Hines will serve another term.
The lack of qualifiers leaves Hines as the only of the three candidates to have been elected over opposition. Thrash was appointed by Opp Mayor John Bartholomew to replace Robert Young in November 2012, after Young relocated outside of the district. Burgess was also appointed by the former Opp City Council in 2012 to replace retiring board member Jennifer Ferguson.
OCS board members serve terms of four years.
