Each year more than 10,000 people are killed in alcohol-related driving crashes, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Locally, Shelia Faulkner knows all too well the grief that comes with losing a loved one after she lost her son in 2006.
Faulkner, who is involved in Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), is sponsoring a yard sale Saturday morning at her home on McLendon Avenue to raise money for the organization.
“We’ll have Pamela Morton, a victim’s advocate for MADD, down,” Faulkner said. “She goes way beyond what she has to do to try to help people. I can’t say enough for her.”
Faulkner said there will be goodies to be given away, as well, and lemonade will also be for sale.
“We are also having a food drive to go along with it,” she said. “We will give part of it to Conecuh River Baptist and the other part to Crossover Ministries.”
Faulkner said MADD does a lot to reach different people all across the globe.
Among the items for sale are clothing, bicycle helmets, stools, dishes, exercisers and cookware.
“We have a 10-by-10 shed half full of stuff,” she said. “We are hoping for a big turnout.”
The sale will be located at 513 McLendon Ave. and it will be held from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.
