Rabren shoots 66 at Future Masters

Straughn rising senior Brooks Rabren got off to a whopping start Thursday in the first round of the 2014 Future Masters Tournament at Dothan Country Club.

Rabren, playing in the 15-18 age group, shot a 4-under par 66 to shoot up the leaderboard to finish tied for first place.

The tournament, which is a three-round exhibition, resumes today and concludes tomorrow.

Rabren tees off at 1:06 p.m. today and must shoot well enough to make the cut of 104 players for Saturday’s play.

In Thursday’s round, Rabren started on the back nine and made birdie to open on No. 10’s par five.

He then went on to make par of Nos. 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 before draining a birdie putt on 18 to close out his front nine with 33 shots.

After parring Nos. 1-4 on the back-end of his round, Rabren birdied No. 5 to fall to 3-under for the round.

Rabren got to 4-under by making birdie on the par-four No. 8 before parring his last hole of the round.
